Following a multi-million pound refurbishment of Apollo Cinemas flagship venue in the London West End, Cinemavision from Saturn Communications Group has been chosen to provide dynamic content for multimedia plasma displays throughout the cinema. Integrated with the ticketing system, ticket availability, film times, trailers and concessions offers are displayed across 24 screens throughout the cinema. Importantly the Cinemavision digital hub software allows the Apollo to customise displays for corporate events at the cinema.

The Apollo West End five screen complex is the first new purpose built cinema in the West End for over ten years. "We were looking for the best-of-breed in digital signage that reflected the quality of our flagship cinema. Connectvision gives us a highly flexible means of managing display content throughout the cinema. Its simple-to-use which is ideal for us to tailor display content so we can add a company's logo and other imagery," says the managing director, Apollo West End.

Connectvision is used to both customise and schedule the contents of plasma displays positioned at the entrance, box office and queuing area, corridors outside the screens, entrance and concessions area, toilets and licensed bar. Apollo has avoided using posters preferring instead 10 second clips of film trailers.

In the bar area the Connectvision display is split into three areas: the main display area showing film trailers, a right hand area showing film titles and times while the bottom of the screen features a RSS feed for news services. "We're also using Connectvision to ask customers to wait in the bar area while we prepare the auditorium. This helps to reduce queuing and means people can spend more time in the bar," he notes.
